A faded red tee carrying a single chest roundel, a sumo wrestler mid stance inside a white circle with EVISU arched above and ATHLETICS curved below in navy collegiate lettering. The wrestler wears a rising sun mawashi that gives the badge its only flash of colour. A V insert is stitched into the neckline and a small woven patch sits at the side hem, both signature construction details rather than decoration.
Evisu was founded in Osaka in 1991 by Hidehiko Yamane, who hand painted the seagull on every pair of jeans and produced them on vintage looms in tiny numbers. The Athletics line extended that obsessive denim house into sportswear, borrowing American collegiate typography and filtering it through Osaka. Pieces from this run are increasingly hard to find outside Japan.
