A black tee printed in white only, Jake and Elwood rendered as flat silhouettes and outlines in hats and shades, the full quote assembled beneath them in ransom note collage lettering with each phrase boxed on its own torn strip. A licence line sits in small type at the base of the graphic.
The Blues Brothers came out in 1980, directed by John Landis, and grew from a Saturday Night Live sketch into one of the most quoted comedies ever made. The line reproduced here is the one everybody knows. Licensed merchandise has run more or less continuously since release, which makes dating any single piece a matter of reading the print method rather than the graphic.
