Darkwing Duck ran from 1991 to 1992 as part of the Disney Afternoon block, a superhero parody built out of the DuckTales universe and pitched somewhere between Batman and pure slapstick. The comic cover format is a standard Disney licensing route, reproducing an artefact rather than a character pose, which is why these read as objects rather than merchandise.
